Astrid works in a busy District General Hospital, across acute inpatient settings, specialising in dementia and later life care. She was an integral part of the team that developed and set up the first Dementia Team in the hospital and has had a leadership role within this team for the past eleven years.
Astrid is an expert in advising and supporting families, carers and people living with dementia with the aim of reducing behavioural and psychological distress. This involves care planning and support with de-escalation techniques, advising on future care needs, navigating the care system and supporting the transition from hospital. She uses an evidenced based, person-centred approach when working with people with dementia and their families to ensure any unmet needs are identified and appropriately supported and working closely with the multi-disciplinary team.
Astrid has developed and now delivers an ongoing training programme for staff of all levels and is committed to improving the knowledge and practice of frontline caregivers. She is passionate about supporting people living with dementia, and their families.
