Currently, Paul is primarily working independently. He was formerly a senior family psychotherapist, in the NHS both CAMHS and Adult Secondary mental health services, across Bristol and Wiltshire, within Avon and Wiltshire Partnership NHS Trust. Paul continues to provide some regular training and clinical supervision to CAMHS specialist service, Be Safe, in Bristol.
Paul initially qualified as a social worker in 2003, later re-training as a registered mental health nurse. He has extensive experience at a senior level and has worked as a dual qualified practitioner across many different sectors in health and social care statutory services, mainly children and adults’ mental health services through his time. Paul left his permanent employment post in the NHS in 2023, to explore other opportunities in private practice.
As a family therapist he is driven by the idea that within all families are strengths and resilience, as much as there can be challenges and dilemmas. Often families can find it hard to see the strengths, especially in times of hardship.
Paul makes links between communication and emotions and is curious about the social constructs that we can easily make in society and how these impact on a person’s wellbeing.
As much as being passionate about his therapeutic work, Paul maintains his continuous professional development (CPD) record to a high standard, always in accordance with his code of conduct and professional bodies guidelines.
Paul Kelly is a systemic and family psychotherapist, commonly known as a family therapist, accredited by the AFT and the UKCP.
