Couples & Family Therapy
Couples & Family Therapy helps those in close relationships strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and navigate challenges together.
Understanding Couples & Family Therapy
Family and systemic psychotherapy – also known as family therapy – can help those in close relationships to better understand and support each other. It enables family members to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely, understand each other’s experiences and views, appreciate each other’s needs, build on family strengths, and work together to make useful changes in their relationships and their lives.
Our approach
Family therapy is accessed at a time and place of the client’s convenience. Generally, our therapists work alone, although sometimes if indicated, can work alongside other therapists in the room. In cases where people have either physical and mental health difficulties these can dictate certain limitations, or maybe people may feel more comfortable in their own homes. An alternative view is that having difficult conversations can be helpfully left in a therapists office.
Our therapists can meet with different family members, to allow space for different conversations. This is arranged in agreement with families. In terms of confidentiality, this needs to be discussed case by case as whenever bringing family members together, we are balancing sharing of information.
