We were delighted that Arbor’s Co-Founder, Sarah Gibbin, was invited to join the Communicourt “Accessing Justice Podcast” to share her insights on communication after traumatic brain injury (TBI).
In Episode 7, Sarah speaks with intermediary Maija Siren about the hidden communication challenges that can follow a brain injury — and how these can affect an individual’s ability to engage fully in legal proceedings.
Even when an injury is described as mild or moderate, changes in attention, memory, word-finding and processing speed can have a profound impact on how someone communicates under pressure. As Sarah explains in the episode, these challenges are often “invisible” to others, but can significantly influence how a person expresses themselves, interprets questions, or follows complex discussions in court.
The discussion highlights how the effects of brain injury are often hidden. A person may appear articulate, yet still experience subtle challenges with memory, attention or word-finding — especially in stressful situations such as legal proceedings.
