Pippa’s first qualified role as a Clinical Psychologist was in a specialist inpatient brain injury rehabilitation hospital where she went on to lead the Neuropsychology department. She has since moved to work in the new NHS ‘one stroke’ rehabilitation pathway supporting stroke survivors from acute inpatient admission to community rehabilitation. She also works in an NHS outpatient Neuropsychology department seeing patients with a wide range of Neurological conditions offering both assessment and treatment.
Pippa works compassionately and collaboratively with clients, their families and other professionals involved in their care to help people come to terms with and live alongside acquired disabilities, not just surviving but thriving. She uses a range of Psychological models including ACT, compassion focused therapy, CBT, positive behaviour support and systemic therapy. Her choice of model and intervention is always individualised and driven by what would most suit each person she works with. Pippa has experience adapting standard psychological treatments to be accessible for people with cognitive and communication changes that occur as a result of an acquired brain injury. She has much experience working with co-morbid ABI and mental health difficulties, both those that were pre-existing and those which started post injury.
The effects of a brain injury are far reaching, impacting multiple people, not just the person who suffered the brain injury. Pippa therefore will often incorporate systemic ways of working into her formulations and practice and may spend some time working with the wider family unit, not just the individual who has acquired a brain injury, when this feels appropriate.
Pippa is skilled in assessment and formulation of clients with complex neuropsychological problems including neurobehavioural problems. She is highly skilled at supporting people with acquired brain injury, their families or care teams work with and around behaviours that challenge.
Pippa completed her MSc in Neuropsychology in 2012 and has submitted her practice portfolio for the diploma that allows entry onto the specialist register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.
