BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy

Victoria Taylor is a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist with a wealth of experience across both the NHS and independent sectors.

Since graduating from Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2013, she has supported individuals with complex communication needs in a variety of educational and clinical environments.

Victoria currently works part time at a specialist college for adults with learning disabilities. She works with clients with a broad spectrum of physical and cognitive needs, including acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, autism and sensory preferences. Victoria has a strong clinical interest in brain injury rehabilitation and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). For this reason, her independent work comprises a focussed caseload, working with young people with acquired and traumatic brain injury.

Victoria is highly skilled in assessing communication skills, identification of appropriate goals and delivering therapy. This includes implementing a range of AAC access methods, including eye gaze and switch access, to enable functional and meaningful communication. Her expertise spans a wide range of communication systems and software. Victoria delivers both individual and group therapy sessions, with extensive experience running AAC and social communication groups.

A core principle in Victoria’s practice is the use of a Total Communication approach. She encourages the use of any and all methods of communication that enable clients to understand and be understood. This supports each client’s preferred ways of interacting, ensuring their communication is as effective and authentic as possible. Her work is rooted in person-centred care, and she is deeply committed to ensuring every client’s voice is heard and respected.

Victoria is also highly experienced in producing comprehensive clinical reports that include detailed assessments, targeted communication goals, and tailored intervention plans. She regularly contributes to the review and development of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and has written transition and funding reports to support access to AAC devices and resources.

Professional development is a key element of Victoria’s clinical ethos. She has recently undertaken training in the use of iQoro and Biozoon to support clients with swallowing and sensory needs. In addition, she has completed training in “Using Generative AI in Speech and Language Therapy” and attended the Gestalt Language Processors Conference, keeping her practice informed by new and evolving approaches in speech and language therapy.

Victoria adopts a dynamic, flexible, and collaborative approach to assessment and intervention, working closely with families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams to maximise outcomes for every client. Above all, she believes that therapy should be a space where individuals feel empowered, understood, and inspired—while also having fun along the way.

Victoria is registered with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) and is a member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT).
